This particular stand has cutwork, where the design is created by cutting out portions of the wood, opposed to carving the wood itself. This design is much more difficult to achieve because once the artist has cut the wood out, there is no way of obviously replacing back so the mastery is much more intricate and requires a real skilled, experinced craftsman.
